Feb. 21st, 2012 02:27 am| Tobias Hayes ★
| Let's put this quite simply: Espio absolutely adores Toby, but their friendship would always have looked rather rocky to an outsider. The temperamental chameleon has a tendency to treat Toby rather harshly - he tends to snap and yell at him over things both important and completely trivial, and there have been times when the usually quiet Toby has had to confront him about it. However, this did not prevent them becoming fast friends to the point of being practically brothers, and eventually they started dating. Not long after, however, Tobias disappeared, leaving Espio - who had entered the relationship reluctantly - to hope that he would come back.
It was over a year before he finally did, and as the gloriously clichéd saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Espio missed Toby hard, and after initially worrying that it was a different Toby entirely, he was quick to pick their relationship back up with a bit more dedication than before. He does worry, though, that Toby's memory isn't quite the same as it was, and is treading somewhat cautiously... though it hasn't stopped him from getting irrationally jealous about pointless things and flipping out over it. He just wants maybe a little bit more attention after waiting for so long, but since he'll never admit it, his approach needs a bit of work. Someone needs to invent a Tsundere-to-Tobias translation device. It would help a lot.
| Marco the Phoenix ★ | |
| Despite him having an incredibly aggravating (to Espio) habit of popping up all over the place, Espio sees Marco as pretty much family, and doesn't know what he'd do if Marco were to suddenly disappear. This is despite having numerous conflicting viewpoints on things like justice and good vs evil, not to mention Marco frequently picking on him like the troll he is. Espio was happy to be best man at Marco's wedding, and recently has taken to near obsessively wearing the stetson hat that Marco gave him. Marco is one of very few people Espio would ask for help or advice, and he'll often speak more openly with Marco than anyone else - the pirate knows more about Espio than perhaps even his friends in the Special Zone did. He isn't entirely sure, though, whether he wants to take Marco up on his offer to go to his world. He's grown attached to the Garden, and the prospect of being on an ocean is a daunting one. However, at the same time, Marco is that important to him that he'd probably go anyway. He just has too much justice in his mind to handle the idea of being a pirate. | |
| Grell Sutcliff ★ | |
| Grell is one of those people who Espio just loves to argue with. He finds her annoying, self-absorbed and overly dramatic... but at least he can always rely on her to rise to the bait. It is rare that they can be in the same vicinity as one another without arguing, though recently this has been happening with greater frequency. Oddly, however, Espio does seem to actually like her, even describing her as his "favourite psychopath." He'll give her gifts on appropriate occasions, helped out with her wedding, and even requested her help to redecorate a corridor with fake blood. He's not going to give her credit for... well, inspiring him to learn how to cook, though. Nope. Since Toby came back, however, he's been erring on the side of caution around her. Grell seems to be a little overprotective of the boy she's adopted as a son, and happens to wield a chainsaw. Psychopaths, chainsaws, and their precious baby's boyfriend don't mix well. | |
| Lt. Furor ★ | |
| Bit of a headcanon warning for this one. Espio thinks fairly highly of Furor, the lieutenant of his hometown's police department. Although he often taunts him about being "old" (note that Espio is only 19, so Furor easily qualifies as old to him) and says he should start thinking about his early retirement plans, it's just teasing. Furor is practically a father figure to him, and he's known him since way back when he was a kid, and an aspiring but rubbish thief. Espio has a little bit of trouble dealing with the fact that, in his timeline, Lt. Furor died when the Special Zone collapsed. He's been unable to work up the stomach to tell him this directly, but has informed the bulldog that he, personally, should be dead. Other than that, he's at a complete loss as to whether he should even tackle the issue at all. | |
| Mikuru Asahina ★ | |
| Espio isn't entirely sure what he thinks of Mikuru - she spilled soup on him once, and indirectly caused him to get curry all over the home ec rooms. And on top of that, Espio frankly doesn't think he can trust her with her weapons of choice - who gave someone that clumsy a pair of handguns?! And speaking of clumsy, he's sure his Martial Arts class was not the best place for her! Still, she's nice enough, and seems to like helping out. Mikuru even loaned Espio one of her pistols when he was trying to improve his range. He finds it hard to dislike her, though he will pick on her sometimes. | |
| Snow Villiers ★ | |
| When Espio was still a cadet, Snow was one of the more significant instructors, as far as he was concerned - he taught the Martial Arts classes Espio took. Espio is annoyed by his attitude (which reminds him of a more laid-back Mighty), but at the very least has accepted that the guy knows what he's talking about... that said, because Snow reminds him of Mighty, he does find it hard to take him seriously at times, and will occasionally be pretty dismissive of what he says. Espio doesn't seem to speak with Snow much anymore - he doesn't seem to have much reason to, half the time, and Espio can be rather antisocial at times. That said, since they now teach the same classes, they could probably find an excuse here and there. | |
| Edward Elric ★ | |
| Okay, so Ed's crossed him a couple of times and landed himself in detention with him, but honestly Espio finds him to be pretty entertaining - just... don't let Ed know about it? It's something about his angry, anti-social and defensive attitude (not much different from his own, though he won't admit it) that just makes Espio want to keep poking him and see what happens. Hell, after finding out how defensive Ed was of his ~*~science~*~ (it's called magic, kid, just accept it!) he actually lent Ed his Chaos Emerald for no other reason than seeing what he did with it. While he didn't exactly express his amusement, Espio found it hilarious when other people apparently thought the same as him - elect the stroppy shortarse for a popularity contest that would piss him off. | |
